Mango, a slightly happier camper

Mango looking a little happier with the Comfy Cone.

Mango came back yesterday from the Evergreen Veterinary Hospital wearing a plastic cone. The cone appeared to be too big for him and he did not like it one bit. In the afternoon, he was whining and actually appeared to have howled a couple of times for the very first time. With the cone, it was quite difficult for him to feed and drink. I had to hand feed him some rice with boiled chicken. Mango kept bumping into things while wearing the plastic one and when he walked, he was occasionally dragging the cone across the floor. He was even having problem laying down.

The vet suggested not getting a more comfortable cone because this is hopefully just a use-once-only item. But i just could not bear to see the sight of Mango being extremely uncomfortable. After doing a little bit of research on google, i found something called the Comfy Cone. The nearby Petco did not have it but i managed to find it at the Mud Bay store not too far away. Immediately, i took Mango there to make sure that he gets a properly-sized cone. The medium Comfy Cone fitted Mango well and it cost about $23.

Obviously, Mango does not like the Comfy Cone as well. But at least he was able walk around within bumping into things and without dragging it across the floor. With the Comfy Cone, he is able to eat and drink. One advantage of the soft nylon-fabric made Comfy Cone is that it can be folded back during feeding time. The difference between the plastic cone and the Comfy Cone is like night and day. Mango finally managed to lay down and sleep.

Mango will be having his sutures removed on 12/1 so he will have to wear the cone 24 hours a day for the next 10 days.
