Squiding in West Seattle

April 6th, 2006 by ktula

Squiding in action

Why would i think that this squiding expedition would be any different from my previous ones? May be it was the grey and somewhat overcast sky? My first squiding experience happened during my first trip to Seattle back in 1998. It was a bountiful trip under a grey and overcast morning where Boon and i caught at least ten squids in less than two hours. Ever since, i have caught a grand total of…drum roll………one squid. Yes, one freaking squid. Well, my latest squiding experience was no different from those since my first trip. I went there full of hope and came back with nothing to show for.

Nothing to show for but this animated picture captured by Janet.

68% of Israeli Jews would refuse to live in same building as an Arab

April 5th, 2006 by ktula

According to this article on Haaretz, based on a poll conducted by the Geocartographia, 68% of Israeli Jews would refuse to live in the same building as an Israeli Arab. Blogging in the Middle East has summarized the result of the poll. So what does this say about the only “democracy” in the Middle East? Oh wait, Israel (and its die-hard supporters) can no longer claim that it is the only “democratically-elected” government in the Middle East - Hamas won the recent Palestinian election by a huge margin.

MD-80 going…going…gone?

April 3rd, 2006 by ktula

Alaska Airlines made an announcement more than two weeks ago that its fleet of 26 MD-80s will be retired before the end of 2008, nine years ahead of their planned retirement. I say good riddance. I was in one of Alaska Air’s MD-80s and i was seated right next to the starboard engine. Damn, that thing was loud. They should put warning label next to the seat that permanent damage to hearing is very likely under prolonged exposure.
